Howells Farm

Project in detail

Positioned beyond the settlement boundary, this pair of contemporary countryside dwellings is designed to sit quietly within the landscape. The architecture takes cues from traditional rural forms, expressed through a modern palette of charred timber cladding and flint stone detailing.

The darkened timber allows the buildings to blend naturally with their surroundings, while flint walls provide warmth, texture, and a nod to local vernacular materials. A central glazed gable and flint spine form a striking focal point, flooding the interiors with natural light and connecting both homes visually to the countryside beyond.

Surrounded by ornamental grasses and native planting, the dwellings appear rooted in place — modern, contextual, and harmonious with their rural setting.
